Camisary integrates three tools that give clients a competitive advantage: survey research, video production, and media strategy. Survey research, including surveys, focus groups, interviews, and desk analysis, assembles crucial data needed to make informed decisions. Video production is essential to telling powerful stories. Media strategy pulls it all together into a strong, coherent plan to achieve the client's goal. This research-driven capacity offers an integrated approach to video production and media strategy.

We primarily serve the Appalachian Alabama region, with operations in Huntsville and Birmingham.


Because our team has expertise in research, education, evaluation, and business strategy, as well as in creative video production, we bring all these skills to bear to inform the design and content of your video and media strategy. Strong videos don't just happen out of sheer creativity. Many questions must be considered and researched to produce a measurably effective video designed as part of a powerful media strategy.

John R. Whitman, Ph.D.

President & Executive Producer

John R. Whitman combines extensive research, educational, and business experience with creative tools to shape effective video communications. Formerly John started and sold Oakland Group, Inc., an international software tools company; started Surveytools Corporation, a survey research company (collaborating with Camisary, see www.surveytools.com); co-founded the Museum for Black Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Washington, DC; and taught in graduate schools at American University, Babson College, Georgetown University, Harvard University, Northeastern University, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville. John's photographs have been purchased byThe National Geographic Magazine and other publications. He is co-author ofUnderstanding the Social Economy of the United States (University of Toronto, 2015) andDelivering Satisfaction and Service Quality (American Library Association, 2001), has published chapters in textbooks on entrepreneurship and law, including inIntellectual Property, Entrepreneurship, and Social Justice (Elgar, 2015), and authored scholarly articles published in peer reviewed journals. He has a BA from Boston University, EdM from Harvard University, and PhD from the University of Toronto.


Nathan M. Bivens

Creative Director

Nathan M. Bivens is Creative Director. Prior work includes lead photographer, marketing videographer, graphic designer, and independent producer through nathanbivens.com. He has directed and produced over 75 videos. He was a Director & Editor for multiple advertising videos for Lee University Relations. Nathan received the ADDY award in the world's largest advertising competition. Nathan has a BS degree in Telecommunications, magna cum laude, from Lee University. 


Jonathan D. Wade

Associate Videographer

Jonathan D. Wade  has experience working in cinematography, directing, editing, and management. Prior work includes Auburn University Men’s Basketball team student manager and volunteer/practicum student at War Eagle Productions. He has worked on events such as Auburn University’s national football broadcasts of National Signing Day and A-Day on SECNetwork, AUHD, and ESPNU. He has also produced a couple of short films through Almost Home Productions. He earned his BS degree in Media Studies with a minor in Business from Auburn University. He is also certified in Avid Media Composer.


Joseph S. Morris

Associate Videographer

Joseph S. Morris is Associate Videographer. He built experience in directing, editing, and producing videos in the JETSpress program at James Clemens High School. This program produced multimedia content for JCHS and Madison City Schools and fostered an environment for creating independent short films. Joseph's current professional work includes lead videographer and film producer through Seon Media, director and editor for videos for The University of Alabama in Huntsville and freelance videography work. He currently attends UAH where he is pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering. 


Raeley K. Stevenson

Associate Photographer

Raeley K. Stevenson combines her studies at Mississippi State University and The University of Alabama in Huntsville with research on social media to cultivate a genuine and personable approach to commercial photography. By day she helps local businesses, entrepreneurs, and artists to promote themselves. By night she challenges the normal applications of photography to explore movement with long exposures. She is currently enrolled at UAH to further her conceptual studies while working on her commercial photography business, Raeley Stevenson Photography, LLC.
